About the event

When the USA President and First Lady reignited the Cancer Moonshot (highlighted by the Lancet as Cancer Moonshot 2.0), they set ambitious, achievable goals: to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50% over the next 25 years, and improve the experience of people and families living with and surviving cancer, ultimately ending cancer as we know it today. They called for everyone to do their part including federal agencies and departments, private companies, health care providers, patient groups, philanthropies, and more. While the immediate goals are domestic, the ambitions of the Cancer Moonshot extend far beyond the borders of the United States, especially as the burden of cancer falls heavily to lower- and middle-income countries (LMIC), where 80% of global cancer deaths occur. International work as part of the Cancer Moonshot is focused on equity and collaboration, thereby increasing access to prevention, screening, treatment, and care for everyone facing a cancer diagnosis and their families around the world.

In December 2022,  the Cancer Moonshot announced New Actions aimed to reduce the Cancer Burden in Africa as Part of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. At recent summits, the  Global Health Catalyst has been advocating for a Global Cancer Fund and has catalyzed major collaborations to launch new cancer centers in LMIC, train thousands of oncology health professionals, develop low cost approaches and technologies including AI for substantially  increasing access to care.  The 2024 Global Health Catalyst (GHC) Summit  will take place on June 07-09, 2024, at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center at 555 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington DC, a preeminent public square for collaborations on Americas’ Main Street. The summit will be organized around 4 CORE (Care, Outreach, Research, Education) areas including building on success of previous year summits. While the focus will be on cancer, the technologies, collaborations and  approaches used will be leveraged to extend the impact to other healthcare areas,
